The Create a Health Case menu allows you to create a health case and report a deceased animal.
1. Login to RASS using the following link: https://rass.cornell.edu/vc.
2. Click the Vet Care RASS module on the top and select Create a Health Case.

3. Search for the Animal Record:
- If you have the animal’s name, barcode, or USDA number you can locate the animal record by typing in the Barcode/Name/ USDA Number and selecting the appropriate Card.

- If you are are missing a barcode or animal name, use the Filter Animal Record section to search.
- 1. Add search filters such as PI or Building.
- 2. Click the Search button.
- 3. Scroll down to see Search Results.

4. From the search results, click the Record # or edit icon to open the animal record.

Note: Cage cards are added to RASS overnight, so if this is a new animal to the facility and a health case is needed, you will need to add the animal profile first. Please see How To Create A New Animal Profile.
5. Once in the animal profile, review and complete the information in Animal Profile section. Required information in this section is indicated with a * red asterisk and includes cage location, strain, and date of birth/hatch.
- If you are in an animal profile for multi housed animals, you may want to add identifying features for the animal in which you are reporting a health case by clicking Add Animal Identification.

- Complete the Animal Identification information and click Save.

6. Scroll down to the Health Concerns section immediately below the animal profile. Click Add Health Concern.

Note: If there is information missing in the animal profile, you will be prompted to complete the required information before adding the Health Concern.
- Add Health Concern details:

a. The entry date will default to today’s date but can be changed, if needed.
b. If there are multiple animals in the cage, select the identifying features for the animal.
c. Check the necessary boxes for Initial Observations based on your concern. Additional information may be required depending on the initial observations. For example, reporting that an animal was found dead requires additional information to be completed prior to submitting the form. RASS will alert you if there is missing required information upon submission.
d. Complete the Housing Details, Affected, Areas, Actions Taken information as needed.
e. If reporting an animal found dead, complete the Deceased Animal Details.

- Additional information may be required depending on your selections on the form. For example, selecting Chemical Hazard will prompt you to type out which chemical hazard was present.
- Add any specific or additional information in the Details.
- To add any pictures, click Upload a Photo.

f. Once the health concern details are complete, click Submit.
Note: Once submitted, a check is automatically scheduled for that animal. If you selected Deceased Animal Details, a notification will be sent to the clinical and PI about the deceased animal.
Note: If you selected Yes to Nursing Pups or No to Singly housed animal, you have the option to Submit and add New Health Concern for the pups or other animals.
7. To close out of the record, close the browser tab or use the menu options at the top to navigate to other Vet Care options.
