Award Date Definitions
Notice of Award Date found on the award or amendment document. If there is no date on the award or amendment, then the date will be the date received by OSP (Received in Awards mailbox or email received by GCO or GCA)

Award Intake Date the award or amendment document is received by OSP (or GCO)

Signed by Cornell Date the award or amendment document is signed OSP

Signed by Sponsor Date the award or amendment document is signed by the Sponsor, if unilateral (e.g. federal award) this date will be the same as the NOA date

Execution Date – The date of final signature on an award or amendment document.

Distribution Date – The date an award or amendment event distribution is completed.

Award Event Type Definitions
Initial Award For migrated awards, original creation of award (RASS migrated award event only)
This event is equivalent to the data found in EZRA at the time of “award created” for awards migrated to RASS. This event is only available to allow for editing of the migrated information in this event and should only be used when editing that row in the events table.
EZRA Imported Award Summary of award events (dates, dollars, cost share, etc.) at the point that the project was migrated to RASS (RASS migrated award event only)
This event is the accumulation of all events up to the time of migration of the record. As with “Initial Award” it should only be used as an event when editing the migrated information of this event.
New Award For use with awards being set up (awarded) in RASS. When a proposal is awarded, this should be the first event.
Continuation Incremental funding to an existing award (e.g. next installment); non-competing submission for next increment
For example, Dr. Smith submits a proposal for a 6-year project and the new award only funds the first year. As the sponsor provides additional anticipated funds, which are not competitively applied for or reviewed, those events should be considered “continuations”
Supplement Request for additional funds within the term of an award that were not included in the original submission. Does not change the original period of award.
A Supplement event will be related to the awarding of Supplement Proposal. A Supplement Proposal is a request to the sponsor for funds not originally requested and has its own budget, requiring a separate proposal record. The Supplement proposal, when funded, will have a final status of “Proposal Funded Under a Different OSP#” and will result in a “Supplement” event in the connected award record.
Renewal Renewal of an existing project. Adds both time and money.
For example, Dr. Good has been awarded a project that was proposed and funded for 5 years. Near the end of the 5 years, Dr. Good and the sponsor discuss on-going support of the work begun under the original award. As a result, the sponsor requests a proposal for a new 5-year segment of funding. This funding may or may not be awarded under the original agreement, but adds new funding and additional time. The related proposal for the renewal will be a separate project record.
No Cost Extension Extension of the end date of a project with no additional funds from sponsor
Award Change A change that is non-financial and not time-related (ex.: change in key personnel, prior approval for travel, rebudget)
Similar in nature to the use of “Change Request” as a proposal purpose used in EZRA, the “Award Change” should be used for events other than changes to obligated/anticipated award amounts or periods of performance
Period of Performance Change Contractual revision to the period of performance only, other than a no-cost extension.
Example: the PI requests a change to the original awarded period of performance of a new project to allow for completion of another project before beginning the new one.
Deobligation Decrease in obligated funds.
Transfer Award Out PI moving to another institution.
This event is the sponsor’s approval of the transfer of an award to another institution.
Termination Contractual early end of a project.
The early terming of a project can be mutual or for cause by either party, and may include only a notice of termination or a formal amendment.
